Dr Derik (FJ) du Toit
Orthopaedic Surgeon | Foot, Ankle & Arthroplasty Specialist
Dr Frederick Johannes (Derik) du Toit is a South African Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist focus on lower limb surgery, including hip and knee arthroplasty as well as foot and ankle conditions.
He obtained his MBChB degree Cum Laude from the University of Pretoria and completed his specialist orthopaedic training with distinction, earning both his Higher Diploma in Orthopaedics and Fellowship of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa (FC Orth SA). He further holds a Master’s degree in Orthopaedic Surgery (MMed Orth).
Dr du Toit completed a Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Fellowship at the University of Cape Town, followed by an advanced Foot and Ankle Fellowship at the University of the Witwatersrand, training at leading academic and private institutions.
He has been in private practice since 2022, consulting at Life Wilgers Hospital and Netcare Unitas Hospital, and performing day-case surgery at Cure Day Hospital Erasmuskloof. His practice includes both elective and trauma-related foot and ankle conditions, as well as primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty.
Dr du Toit has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and national orthopaedic conferences and remains actively involved in continuing professional development. He is a member of the South African Orthopaedic Association.
He places strong emphasis on patient education, believing that understanding one’s condition is key to optimal recovery. By empowering patients through clear communication and evidence-based care, he strives to achieve excellent functional outcomes.
Outside the operating theatre, Dr du Toit is a proud husband and father of two daughters. He enjoys gym training, sport shooting, hiking, and spending time outdoors.

Consultation Info
Dr du Toit consults at Wilgers Hospital in the MRI Building - Suite 4 and at Unitas Hospital Suite 111. During this first consultation, you and Dr du Toit will discuss your concerns and presenting problems. Based on this discussion, Dr du Toit will recommend the necessary treatment e.g. conservative treatment, surgery, or further investigations such as an MRI or x-rays.
The first consultation is R1100, which excludes any procedures.
The consultation is immediately payable.
You will receive a statement, which you can send to your medical aid for reimbursement, if applicable.
Follow-up consultations are charged at R700.
